The Long And Strong Convair XC-99

Let’s talk about another giant airplane that’s really special. It’s called the Convair XC-99, and it’s the second biggest plane powered by engines that work like car engines, just a bit smaller than the Hercules. This plane has really wide wings, about 230 feet across, and it had six big engines at the back. It was a real powerhouse.

Once, it did a super important job by carrying more than 40,000 tons of stuff. That’s like moving a whole bunch of elephants in the air! But, it retired in 1957 and now rests in Ohio. So, it’s not flying anymore, but it’s like a big, historical airplane that did some amazing things during its time.
