The IIP is a well-funded institution that uses airplanes and radar technology to locate the icebergs near major shipping lanes. The U.S National Ice Center uses satellite technology to collect the data and monitor icebergs in the ocean. However, the technology is installed with a command only to track icebergs which are larger than 5,400 square feet. Though this mushroom-shaped iceberg wasn’t that huge still it was an iceberg of great height and danger.
