Mount Vesuvius’s eruption in the 79 AD became the main reason for the fall of the Roman cities that were under the rule of Pompeii and Herculaneum and buried them deep inside and mashed them into just another layer in the soil. Located in Italy, it is the only European volcano that has erupted in the last several decades. This mountain might’ve not found a significant place in our history books but in 1944, the eruption damaged 4 villages.
During World War II, the eruption destroyed many fighter Aircraft of the US army that was stationed closed to Terzigno. However, these B-25 bombers landed safely and got the chance to click this epic photo on their way to the lands.
